With Monday's typically serving as my rest day, I often find myself using these days as particularly focused days of reflection (on the past week), preparation (for the week ahead), and thought (really about everything and anything). Now, I am nowhere near narcissistic enough to think anyone wants to have a weekly written report on the above from me; however, it did get me thinking about a new weekly post highlighting some of the things I will be occupying my week with or things I have found that I thought were particular interesting from the week past.
I hope it will provide a little bit of insight into the efforts and time put into these sports that isn't necessarily time spent in the pool, on the bike or in my running shoes as well as hopefully provide useful information, resources, and materials for you, the reader.
I apologize for the verbal diarrhea preceding this post and promise it is only meant as an introduction to this initial entry. So here you go. I hope these Monday Musings of mine will inspire, education, laugh and maybe even make you think a little!
Brandon's Monday Musings
Here it is ladies and gentlemen, my Monday Musings:
Books I'm Listening to/Reading
As you know I'm a big fan of Audio books during training and reading in general. On this weeks agenda:
The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France (Audio Book) by Daniel Coyle & Tyler Hamilton. An incredible account of the doping inside the Tour de France and the lengths individuals will go to win, no matter the cost. Eye opening. Interested in listening? First person to comment on this post or email me will receive a free copy of the book (via Audible's "Send this" feature)
Article of the Week
"According to a new study 1 minute of intervals has same benefits as 45 minutes steady" - Don't forget to keep things in perspective on your overall goals ... but some interesting research once again confirming the value of intervals.
Weekly Training Focus - Stretching/Mobility
With 13 days to go my focus this week has been stretching and mobility. I'm sore. I started Monday with a needling session at physio and will be dedicating significant time this week to stretching and mobility issues. A while back a good friend put me onto Kelly Starrett, who is now my go to source when I have a muscle related issue.
This week I'll be rotating through The 10 Best Mobility Exercises For Runners.
So far, this one has been paying huge dividends:
Gear I've Got My Eye On
While not the sexiest piece of gear, after some travelling last week and this week for training, I'm eyeing the purchase of a new gear bag. After some searching the Ogio 9.0 Athletic Bag is something I've added to my ever growing "I need that!" list.
Words that Caught My Eye
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do" ~ Pele
That's it for my Monday Musings. Hopefully you enjoyed the post! If so, check back next week! If not, please give me another shot!!!!!
Happy Training Everyone!
